GURPS Supers: Empire City
The Meatpacking District
This has the distinction of being Empire City’s first gentrified neighborhood. When the industry left the city, it left blight and emptiness, which was quickly filled by crime and desperation in the sixties and seventies.
In the eighties and nineties, artists, proto-hipsters and the gays led the way. This was Empire City’s “gayborhood” back in the day, but like most cities in the country, the gay bars have been closing.
The prices in “the District”, as the denizens call it, rival Tower Hill in places. Many of the colorful members of the neighborhood are quickly being priced out as lofts prices get loftier.
